Craig and Lindsay Foreman, a British couple, have been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Iran for espionage while on a global motorcycle journey, despite their strong denial of the charges.
The couple was arrested in January 2025 and has been held in Tehran’s Evin prison for the past 16 months. They were accused of espionage—a claim they vehemently reject. Lindsay, aged 53, and Craig, aged 52, insist they did not expect such severe consequences as tourists.
In a recent statement, Craig expressed their frustration: “We feel as though our lives are being wasted.” The couple faces a dire situation; they have been separated and can only communicate with family through monitored calls. This isolation adds to the mental strain they are experiencing.
Lindsay has taken up reading, exercise, and yoga to maintain her mental health during this challenging time. She remarked, “I am trying to maintain my mental health through reading, exercise, and yoga.” Yet, the reality of their long-term imprisonment is becoming increasingly difficult to accept.
That context matters because it highlights the precariousness of their situation. Several of Craig’s fellow prisoners have faced execution, raising alarm about their safety within the Iranian penal system.
The UK government has been urged by Craig Foreman to take stronger action for their release. However, no specific timeline has been shared regarding any diplomatic efforts or interventions that may occur next.
