Wales is currently in the spotlight as it receives just under £4 million in investment from Creative Wales aimed at boosting screen production. This funding will support nine new productions, with seven of them focusing on authentically Welsh stories, promising to enrich the cultural landscape of the region.
The financial boost is expected to generate an estimated additional spend of £50.6 million in the Welsh economy, highlighting the importance of creative industries in driving economic growth.

On a more positive note, significant changes are coming to rail services in North Wales. Starting on 17 May 2026, the timetable change will see an increase in rail services on the North Wales Coast Line by around 50 percent. A new hourly service from Llandudno to Liverpool will be introduced, alongside an extension of the hourly service from Manchester Airport to Holyhead. Additionally, an hourly Wrexham to Crewe service will be established by extending the current Wrexham to Chester train.
Ken Skates, a representative from Transport for Wales, highlighted the importance of these changes, stating, “The timetable change will also see the first phase of the rollout of Pay-As-You-Go ticketing in North Wales.” This initiative is expected to simplify travel for residents and visitors alike.
Creative Wales has been instrumental in supporting the screen industry, having awarded over £35.5 million of production funding to 74 projects since its inception in 2020. Jack Sargeant remarked, “Wales has never been a more exciting place to make television,” emphasizing the region’s growing reputation in the creative sector.
