As the Easter bank holiday weekend approaches, the UK is bracing for the impact of Storm Dave, which is expected to hit hard. The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings as the storm approaches from the west, with significant weather changes anticipated.
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 5 PM, a yellow wind warning will come into effect for parts of North East England, North West England, South West Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, and Yorkshire & Humber. Winds of 50 to 60 mph are expected across these warning areas, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph in exposed locations.
In addition to strong winds, heavy snow is forecast for northern Scotland, where blizzard conditions are likely. Accumulations of 10 to 20 cm of snow could occur, with even more in areas above 200 meters in elevation, where 5 to 10 cm is possible.
Temperatures in northern Scotland could drop to 0°C on Saturday morning, further complicating conditions. A 12-hour wind warning has also been issued for Northern Ireland, starting at 2 PM on Saturday.
Travel disruption is anticipated across roads, rail, air, and ferry services due to the severe weather. The Met Office warns that large waves could create dangerous conditions along the coastline, and there is a risk of injuries and danger to life from flying debris caused by the strong winds.
Tom Crabtree from the Met Office stated, “Storm Dave will form and rapidly deepen on Saturday as it approaches the UK from the west.” He emphasized the need for residents to prepare their properties for the impending strong winds and to stay updated with the latest forecasts, as weather warnings are likely to be updated.
As the storm progresses, blizzard conditions with drifting and blowing snow are expected to lead to very poor visibility across the hills and mountains of the north-west of Scotland. This could pose significant risks for those traveling in these areas.
While some uncertainty remains in the exact track and shape of Storm Dave, a spell of strong southwesterly winds is expected. The storm is forecast to weaken as it moves into the North Sea, but its initial impact is likely to be severe.
