“It’s a great solution in case there’s any global catastrophes, or if there was a major outbreak of a flu that killed livestock,” said Jamie Keeble, a representative from Heck, as the company explores the future of sausage production.
The Muncaster Castle’s Sausage Festival will take place from May 2 to 4, 2026, inviting food enthusiasts to indulge in a variety of sausage flavors. Visitors can participate in a daily Sausage Tasting Session, where they will have the opportunity to sample and vote for their favorite sausage.
Entry to the festival requires a Sausage Tasting Pass, priced at £24.95 for adults and £17.50 for children aged 3-15 years. This event promises to be a delightful experience for families and food lovers alike.
Heck, known for its sausages, burgers, and mince sold in major retailers like Tesco, Waitrose, and Sainsbury’s, is currently considering expanding into lab-grown meat. This move is part of their strategy to future-proof their products amidst changing consumer preferences and potential global challenges.
Heck first held discussions with biotech company Ivy Farm Technologies in 2021 regarding the use of lab-grown meat in their offerings. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact date for the commercial launch of these products, as well as the regulatory approval status for lab-grown meat in Britain.
Meanwhile, Greggs is also making headlines with the introduction of a new Chicken Roll, which will become a permanent addition to its menu. “They say the best things come in threes, and our iconic roll trilogy is no exception,” stated a Greggs spokeswoman.
The Chicken Roll contains 305 calories and will be available for £1.35. Despite recent challenges, including a reported 17.9% fall in statutory pre-tax profits to £167.4 million for the year ending December 27, 2025, Greggs continues to innovate and expand its menu.
With 121 net store openings in 2025, Greggs aims to reach a total of 2,739 locations by the end of that year, showcasing its resilience in the competitive food market.
As the Muncaster Castle Sausage Festival approaches, it promises to be an exciting event for sausage lovers, highlighting both traditional and innovative approaches to sausage production.
