Project Helix Officially Announced
Microsoft has officially announced Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox console, which is set to support both Xbox and PC games. This announcement was made on March 5, 2026, by Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
Project Helix is expected to be the fifth-generation Xbox and is touted to be the most open Xbox ever. According to Sharma, “Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games.” This marks a significant shift in the Xbox ecosystem, as it aims to integrate more closely with PC gaming.
One of the standout features of Project Helix is its ability to boot up the Windows Desktop, allowing users to install other PC stores such as Steam and the Epic Games Store. Jez Corden, a gaming journalist, noted that the console will essentially function as a gaming PC at its core, with the Xbox Full Screen Experience from the Xbox Ally handheld serving as its front-end.
