“The young girl was confirmed deceased at the hospital and the woman remains in a critical condition,” stated a police spokesperson following a tragic incident on April 1, 2026, in East Peckham, Kent.
The collision occurred around 6:25 PM on the A228 Boyle Way, involving a pony and trap and a white DAF tipper truck. Emergency services, including police, fire crews, and paramedics, swiftly attended the scene.
A 29-year-old man from Kent, who was driving the truck, has since been arrested as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Tragically, a man in his 30s, who was riding in the trap, was confirmed dead at the scene. Additionally, a young girl who was also in the trap was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Reports indicate that the woman riding in the trap is currently in critical condition, while the pony involved in the incident also died at the scene.
Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist in their investigation. “Anyone who saw the truck or pony and trap prior to the collision is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit,” the police urged.
The route was closed in both directions following the incident, causing significant disruption as emergency services worked at the scene. Two air ambulances landed nearby to assist with the response.
