Coastal Construction Faces Liquidation

“We did everything we possibly could to keep it going, but we got to the point where we couldn’t hold off anymore,” said Kevin Waddison, reflecting on the difficult decision to liquidate Coastal Construction. The company, which was once the official building contractor for Norwich City, has been put into liquidation, owing creditors a staggering £1.06 million.

Coastal Construction, established by Peter Waddison, who passed away in 2023, ceased trading in October 2025. The financial struggles of the company have been exacerbated by nutrient neutrality planning rules, which caused significant delays to housing projects. These setbacks ultimately contributed to the company’s inability to maintain operations.

Norwich City, one of the company’s 26 creditors, filed a petition to wind up Coastal Construction, highlighting the financial strain that the construction firm was under. Kevin Waddison noted, “It shows the sort of pressure we were getting from some of our creditors,” indicating the mounting challenges faced by the business.

In a last-ditch effort to save the company, Kevin and his brother Gary Waddison injected around £300,000 of their own money into Coastal Construction last year. Despite their efforts, the financial burden proved too great, and Kevin Waddison stated, “Unfortunately we could not trade any longer.” This statement underscores the harsh realities of the construction industry, particularly in the face of regulatory challenges.

Coastal Construction’s ties to Norwich City extended beyond financial transactions; the company also paid for a hospitality box at Carrow Road, further solidifying its role within the local sports community. However, the financial implications of the liquidation are likely to reverberate throughout the region, affecting not just the company but also its creditors and partners.

The liquidation process will now unfold, with creditors awaiting the outcome and potential recovery of funds. As the situation develops, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the proceedings to understand the full impact of Coastal Construction’s closure on the local economy and the construction sector.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the next steps for the creditors involved and how Norwich City will address its financial interests in the wake of this development. The future of Coastal Construction’s projects and commitments remains uncertain as the company navigates this challenging transition.
