Kylian Mbappe is not expected to have surgery on his knee; however, he will undergo additional tests to evaluate the extent of his injury.
The forward from Real Madrid has been dealing with a persistent problem affecting the external ligament in his left knee since late 2025.
Knee Injury Update
It is yet to be determined whether Mbappe will be fit to participate in his team’s Champions League last 16 first leg match against Manchester City on March 11 – airing live on TNT Sports and discovery+

Alvaro Arbeloa, the head coach of Real Madrid, also provided an update regarding Mbappe’s condition.
"There was a general agreement among everyone, and we believe the best course of action is for him to take a break, focus on his recovery, and return at full strength," he stated.
Champions League Participation
"It won’t be just a matter of days; it will take a bit longer, though I can’t specify how much time. I hope it won’t be too lengthy."
Arbeloa stated: "We will approach it one day at a time. It’s about him assessing how he feels, how his recovery is going, and how things develop."
"I think it’s best not to impose any deadlines at this moment. Essentially, he is experiencing some discomfort that we need to evaluate on a daily basis to understand how he is feeling, and from there, we will make our decisions."
Player’s Recovery Plan
Arbeloa also shared his thoughts on the upcoming match against City, a team that Real Madrid has faced multiple times in the Champions League knockout rounds in recent years.
"I believe it will be an exhilarating clash between two remarkable teams," he remarked. "I think this is a match that fans in Madrid truly relish at the Bernabeu due to the caliber of the opposing team, and of course, when the moment arrives, we will be fully prepared for the challenges it will bring."
On Monday, Real Madrid will take on Getafe in La Liga, missing Mbappe, who has netted 23 goals in 23 league matches this season.
Los Blancos will then travel to face Celta Vigo on Friday, followed by hosting City in the first leg of their round of 16 matchup the subsequent Wednesday.
