Jack Colback Announces Retirement
Jack Colback has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The former midfielder concluded his career after making a total of 480 professional club appearances.
Colback’s career included significant stints at several clubs, most notably Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest. He made 135 appearances for Sunderland and 102 for Newcastle United, showcasing his talent in the Premier League.
Throughout his time in the Premier League, Colback made 189 appearances, scoring 9 goals and providing 11 assists. His contributions were pivotal in several key matches, including being part of the Sunderland squad that reached the Carabao Cup final in the 2013-14 season.
In 2016-17, Colback was a member of the Newcastle United team that won the Championship title, a highlight in his career. He joined Nottingham Forest initially on loan before making a permanent transfer in 2020, further solidifying his reputation in English football.
Most recently, Colback joined Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2023, where he made 53 appearances. Reflecting on his career, Colback stated, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.”
He expressed gratitude towards his coaches, teammates, and supporters, saying, “There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and supporters who helped me to achieve my dream. Looking forward to what the next chapter holds.”
Colback began his career with Sunderland, where he also had a pair of loan spells with Ipswich Town. He completed a free transfer to Newcastle United in 2014 after leaving Sunderland, marking a significant transition in his career.
