Cromer Road in Poole will be closed starting March 23, 2026, for essential gas mains replacement works, with the closure expected to last until May 1, 2026. The closure will restrict parking, waiting, loading, or unloading along the road, although emergency services will maintain full access during this period.
Residents will be permitted access to their properties as much as the construction site allows. A diversion route has been established via Poole Road, Ashley Road, Alder Road, Yarmouth Road, and Cromer Road to help mitigate traffic disruptions.
This closure comes amidst other significant developments in the area, including the announcement that Costa Coffee will open a new store at the Broadway Enterprise Park in Norwich on March 26, 2026. This new location will mark the 400th drive-through store for the brand, highlighting the growing demand for convenient coffee options.
However, the Cromer store of a discount retail chain is set to close on March 29, 2026, as part of a broader strategy that includes the closure of four stores on April 4. The discount retailer has initiated a closing-down sale with discounts ranging from 30% to 60% to clear inventory.
A spokesperson for Costa Coffee expressed enthusiasm about the new store opening, stating, “We’re excited to share some exciting news from Costa Coffee!” They further noted, “This milestone is a huge moment for Costa Coffee, demonstrating the demand for convenient on-the-go coffee, as well as offering our customers a relaxing in-store environment.”
In response to the road closure, a representative from BCP Council stated, “The closure is essential for SGN to carry out replacement works on the gas mains,” and apologized for any inconvenience this may cause to road users.
As the construction progresses, the community will be closely monitoring the situation, especially with the potential for delays that could extend the closure by up to 18 months. Details remain unconfirmed.
