Upcoming Event Details
The Cambridge Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, attracting significant attention as it prepares to welcome around 15,000 runners. This annual event features a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) race that starts and finishes on Victoria Avenue, adjacent to the event’s village on Midsummer Common.
The first wave of runners will set off at 09:30 GMT, with excitement building as participants gear up for the challenge ahead. The course is known for its flat terrain, providing a great opportunity for runners to achieve personal best times.
City Preparations
In anticipation of the event, 36 roads in and around Cambridge will be closed to ensure the safety of participants and spectators. Local authorities, including the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, are involved in managing the logistics of the race.
Personal Stories
Among the participants is Chloe Hodgkisson, who is running to raise funds for the Stroke Association charity. Chloe’s motivation stems from her own experience; she suffered a stroke in 2024 and underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain.
Reflecting on her journey, Chloe stated, “I just couldn’t believe it; I had to walk again.” She expressed the emotional toll of her recovery, saying, “For a long time, I felt helpless; I couldn’t be the mum I was before.”
Challenges Ahead
Chloe’s participation in the Cambridge Half Marathon represents not only a personal milestone but also a broader message of resilience and recovery. Rob Foreman, another participant, commented on the physical demands of the race, stating, “This challenge is definitely going to be one of the hardest I’ve done physically, so it’s going to be a case of being mentally strong and resilient.”
As the event approaches, the community is coming together to support the runners and the causes they represent. The Cambridge Half Marathon promises to be a day of inspiration, determination, and community spirit.
