Event Overview
The Cambridge Half Marathon is being held on Sunday, with approximately 15,000 runners expected to participate in the event. This popular race covers a distance of 13.1 miles (21.1 km) and is known for its flat course, providing a great opportunity for participants to achieve personal best times.
The race will start and finish on Victoria Avenue, adjacent to the event’s village on Midsummer Common. The first wave of competitors is scheduled to set off at 09:30 GMT. To accommodate the large number of runners, 36 roads in and around the city will be closed, with some closures beginning as early as 4:00 AM and the last road expected to reopen by 19:00 PM.
Participants and Their Stories
Among the participants is Chloe Hodgkisson, who is running to raise funds for the Stroke Association after suffering a stroke in 2024. Chloe underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain, a result of a condition known as patent foramen ovale (PFO). Reflecting on her journey, Chloe stated, “I just couldn’t believe it; I had to walk again,” and added, “For a long time, I felt helpless; I couldn’t be the mum I was before.” She previously completed a 60-mile Run/Walk for Stroke challenge in preparation for the marathon.
Another notable participant is Rob Foreman, who will be running in full firefighter kit to support the Magpas Air Ambulance charity. Rob commented on the challenge, saying, “This challenge is definitely going to be one of the hardest I’ve done physically, so it’s going to be a case of being mentally strong and resilient.”
Current State
As the event approaches, preparations are in full swing to ensure a smooth experience for both runners and spectators. Toilets will be available at each drink station along the route and within the event village, catering to the needs of participants.
