Bristol Protests Lead to Six Arrests

On March 7, 2026, a protest march organized by the group Bristol Patriots in Bristol resulted in six arrests. The event saw approximately 40 members of Bristol Patriots gather, while around 200 counter-protesters from Stand Up To Racism were present to oppose the march.

The protest commenced at 12:15 PM at the Cenotaph in St Augustine’s Parade and was designed to facilitate the right to peaceful protest while ensuring public safety. Avon and Somerset Police deployed more than 200 officers to manage the situation, utilizing batons and horses to keep the two groups apart.

As tensions escalated, police created a human wall around the smaller group of Bristol Patriots. The two groups ultimately dispersed around 3:30 PM, after a stand-off that saw the march reach as far as Penn Street.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, the six individuals arrested ranged in age from 23 to 60. The police emphasized that officers were required to use proportionate force to ensure the safety of all individuals involved and to maintain order between the opposing groups.

Inspector John Shaddick stated, “Today’s protests in Bristol were closely planned for and actively managed by our policing teams.” The police had activated special powers to disperse crowds if necessary, which included the authority to order individuals to remove face coverings.

The protest was organized by Bristol Patriots with the aim to ‘Get Starmer Out and stop the boats.’ This reflects ongoing tensions and debates surrounding immigration and political leadership in the UK.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments following the dispersal of the groups. The situation highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in balancing the right to protest with public safety concerns.
