Primark Stores to Close on Easter Sunday Across the UK
Primark has announced that all its stores in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will close for over 24 hours on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. This closure is a direct result of the Sunday Trading Act 1994, which restricts large shops from opening on this significant holiday. Only the Primark stores located in Scotland will remain open during this period.
The closure will take effect at 10 PM on Saturday evening, with stores not reopening until Easter Monday morning. This decision impacts over 190 Primark stores across the UK, including approximately 160 located in England. The company has emphasized that this closure is in compliance with existing legislation that governs trading hours on Sundays.
Primark’s spokesperson reiterated the implications of the closure, stating, “On Easter Sunday only stores in Scotland will be open and all stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed.” This move aligns with the legal framework that has been in place since 1994, which limits the size of shops that can operate on Easter Sunday to those under 280 square meters.
In addition to the Easter Sunday closures, Primark is also expanding its clothing repairs service in collaboration with The Seam. This initiative will be available in three stores: Manchester Market Street, Bromley, and Edinburgh Princes Street. The repairs service will be offered every Friday until June 5, 2026, reflecting Primark’s commitment to sustainability and customer service.
Vicki Swain, Product Longevity Lead at Primark, noted the positive reception of the repairs service, stating, “Last year’s trial in Manchester shows there is demand from high street shoppers for a more simple and accessible solution to fixing their favourite pieces.” This initiative is part of Primark’s broader strategy to enhance customer engagement and promote sustainable practices.
