King Charles II at the Races
King Charles II is set to make a grand appearance at Berkeley Castle for a day at the races from April 4 to April 6, 2026. This immersive event promises to transport visitors back in time, recreating a pivotal moment in English history.
The event will feature a military parade with marching soldiers and musket fire in honor of the ‘Merry Monarch’, enhancing the historical atmosphere of the occasion. Tickets for adults are priced at £17, while children aged three and up can attend for £9. Notably, children under three can enter for free, making it a family-friendly outing.
Family tickets, which accommodate two adults and two children, are available for £48, allowing families to enjoy the festivities together. The highlight of the racing events will be the Cheltenham Festival, which includes the prestigious Unibet Champion Hurdle.
Among the competitors, Brighterdaysahead stands out with a rating of 160, making her the best horse in the race by a narrow margin of 1lb over The New Lion, who is rated 159. Golden Ace, the previous year’s Champion Hurdle winner, will also be competing, adding to the excitement of the races.
Matt Chapman, a well-known figure in the racing community, expressed his confidence in Brighterdaysahead, stating, “I ended up tipping Brighterdaysahead. The reason I changed my mind is she’s, by 1lb, officially the best horse in the race with a mark of 160.”
However, not all insights are positive. Jockey Paddy Brennan noted some concerns regarding Brighterdaysahead’s training, saying, “I see Brighterdaysahead is going to be stabled at Olly Murphy’s yard. Obviously they’re trying something different, but if you’re looking for cheekpieces for Lossiemouth and a stable in Olly Murphy’s for Brighterdaysahead … they’re not positives.”
As the event approaches, the anticipation builds for what promises to be a memorable experience at the races. With a blend of historical significance and thrilling competition, attendees can expect an engaging atmosphere.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional activities or special guests that may be announced as the date draws closer. The excitement surrounding King Charles II’s visit and the races continues to grow, making this an event not to be missed.
