Kevin Nolan Sacked as Manager of Northampton Town
Kevin Nolan has been sacked as manager of Northampton Town after a disappointing run of results that saw the team secure only one win in their last 16 league matches. The decision comes following a 1-0 loss to AFC Wimbledon, marking Nolan’s final game in charge.
Under Nolan’s leadership, Northampton Town has struggled significantly, currently sitting 23rd in League One and three points adrift of safety. The team’s performance has been particularly concerning, with only 31 goals scored in 36 matches, making it the second lowest total in the league.
Nolan took over the managerial role in December 2024, succeeding Jon Brady. He initially helped the team avoid relegation last season, finishing in 19th place, and even led them to a promising start this season, reaching as high as 12th in the standings. However, results have deteriorated sharply since Christmas.
Colin Calderwood has been appointed as the interim manager while the club searches for a new permanent replacement. This managerial change marks the 10th in League One this season, reflecting the high stakes and pressures within the league.
Kelvin Thomas, the club’s chairman, expressed gratitude for Nolan’s contributions, stating, “We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here, he helped keep us up last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season.” However, he also acknowledged the necessity of the decision, noting, “We are sorry to have to take this decision, but unfortunately as we all know, football is very results based.”
Thomas further commented, “But since Christmas the sequence of performances and results have led us to believe a change is in the best interests of all concerned.” Nolan leaves the club with the best wishes of the management, as Thomas added, “Kevin leaves with our thanks and our best wishes and we wish him well for the future.”
As Northampton Town navigates this transitional phase, the focus will now shift to finding a new manager who can steer the team away from the relegation zone and improve their fortunes in the league.
