It is rare for an F1 driver of Verstappen’s calibre to participate in lower-level motorsport events. However, the upcoming Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race presents a unique opportunity for him to showcase his skills outside of Formula 1.
Breaking Development
Max Verstappen will compete in the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race scheduled for May 16-17, 2024. He will drive a Mercedes AMG GT3 car while racing under the Red Bull livery.
Verstappen has expressed his excitement about the race, stating, “The Nurburgring Nordschleife is a special place. There’s no other track like it. The 24-hours of Nurburgring is a race that’s been on my bucket list for a long time, so I’m really thrilled we can make it happen now.”
Team and Preparation
In this race, Verstappen will share driving duties with Daniel Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer. He noted, “We’ve got a strong line-up with Dani, Jules and Lucas and great support from Red Bull and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.”
Verstappen has previously driven around the Nordschleife to gain his GT3 licence and won a round of the Nurburgring Endurance Series (NLS) last year, which adds to his preparation for this event. He remarked, “That preparation is very valuable, as we have learned a lot that we can take into our programme this year with NLS2 and the 24-hour race.”
Looking Ahead
As the date approaches, observers are keen to see how Verstappen will perform in this endurance race, given his recent experience in Formula 1 where he finished sixth in the Australian Grand Prix, 54 seconds behind race-winner George Russell.
With the combination of his F1 background and the support from his team, expectations are high for Verstappen’s participation in the Nurburgring 24 Hours, marking a significant chapter in his racing career.
