Emmerdale Not Airing Tonight
Fans of the popular soap opera Emmerdale will be disappointed to learn that it will not be airing tonight, March 6, 2026. The show has been pulled from the schedule to make way for live coverage of the Guinness Men’s Six Nations match between Wales and Ireland, which kicks off at 8:10 PM on ITV1.
Schedule Changes for Sports Coverage
Typically, Emmerdale airs at 8 PM, but due to the sports event, ITV will start its coverage at 7:20 PM, leading to the disruption of the usual programming. This is not the first instance where Emmerdale has been removed from the schedule for sporting events; similar changes occurred on January 13 and February 2 of this year.
Return of Emmerdale
Viewers can look forward to the return of Emmerdale on Monday, March 9, at its regular time of 8 PM. Following Emmerdale, Coronation Street will air at 8:30 PM, continuing the newly established soap power hour that was implemented after a crossover episode called Corriedale.
The decision to replace Emmerdale with sports coverage has sparked dissatisfaction among fans. One viewer expressed, “It is unfair that soap times and schedules are affected because of sports fixtures,” while another stated, “Disgusting once again take the soaps off for sport.” These sentiments reflect a growing frustration among soap opera enthusiasts regarding the frequent schedule changes.
ITV’s Response
In response to viewer concerns, ITV’s Managing Director, Kevin Lygo, mentioned that the new commissioning pattern is “viewer-led,” suggesting that the changes are made with audience preferences in mind. Additionally, actor Chris Bisson reassured fans, saying, “Don’t worry guys, you’re back on Monday!”
Context of the Soap Power Hour
The introduction of the soap power hour was designed to enhance viewership and engagement following the successful crossover episode. This initiative aims to provide a more cohesive viewing experience for fans of both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
As Emmerdale takes a brief hiatus due to sports coverage, fans are reminded of the show’s return on March 9. While the disruption has caused some discontent, ITV continues to adapt its programming in response to viewer preferences.
